Thank- You, Thank- You, Thank- You.

Those are two words that I never get tired of saying or hearing. I think that gratitude is something so easy to do and it should be practiced as often as possible.

At the end of every single training session that I have with my clients, we stand face to face, close our eyes and with every deep breath that we take, we think of one thing that we are grateful for. We do this three times and my clients and I always are grateful for the chance to practice gratitude. It is one of those things like meditating that I make a point of adding into my day. It feeds me in a way.

So many people are more than happy to tell you about all of their complaints all day. “I’m so fat, I hate my job, I have no money, my relationship sucks and my( fill in the blank) hurts all the time.” Now the funny thing is that all of those above mentioned things can be changed by the person’s choices. Instead of complaining about your weight, be thankful that you are fortunate enough to have food on your table. Millions don’t. You also have the ability to make better choices regarding what you are feeding yourself whereas many don’t.  If you are able to move, be grateful for that; many are bed ridden. Moving and nourishing your body will get the weight off if that is what’s needed.

Unfortunately, many people hate their jobs. In fact it is said that 4pm Sunday is dread time- the time when people start thinking about returning to work on Monday. How sad is that? When someone complains to me about their job I always tell them to be grateful that they have one as many don’t. That immediately shakes them out of their thoughts.

No matter what your situation is you are always better off than someone else. Remember that. Many people would love to complain about the little things that most of us routinely complain about.

I remember a few years ago on social media a photo was going around with a young girl who was crying and clearly having a tantrum because for Christmas she didn’t get the correct colour for her new cell phone. At the bottom was another photo of a person who without proper shoes had tied pieces of cloth onto large pop bottles and attached them to their feet. Kinda puts everything into perspective real fast, doesn’t it!!!! That person would give anything to walk a mile in YOUR shoes. Would you do the same?

Appreciate everything that you have been given, good and bad. Always be grateful!!

What are three things that you are grateful for on this day?

At the age of 4, I was told that I was adopted. I was told in a way that a 4 year old would understand. “You were chosen” or “We chose you” were the words that I remembered being told to me.

I thought that my parents went into a supermarket or some other place like that and in the midst of rows of babies they wandered down the aisle and CHOSE ME.

I didn’t ask why they chose me over someone else or any other question for that matter. I just accepted it and life went on.

When I became a teenager, I had more questions about my life before being adopted but they didn’t seem to know the answers or remember much so I decided to search for myself.

Who was I? Who am I? Why am I the way I am?  There were so many questions.

With the blessing and support of my parents, I researched, investigated and travelled outside of myself and my province to find the answers to those questions that had captured my mind.

Only now do I realize that even though I thought I needed to go travelling all over the place to find the answers that I was searching for, I really just needed to do the complete opposite.

I needed to be still and go inward.

This realization came about a while back when negative circumstances were enveloping me and trying to take me to a place where I refused to go. Don’t you hate when that happens? I was playing a fierce game of tug of war and instead of pulling with all my might to try to conquer the negativity, I just let go of the rope and walked away from the battle.

I wasn’t getting the answers that I was looking for from the outside world so I decided to see what would happen if I stopped, took a breath and disconnected. I got rid of the many distractions that were allowing me to NOT search for the answers and just continue on with what I called the stupid circumstances of my present situation.

I decided to C Things DifFerEnTly™ so I disconnected my phone and cable, and locked my social media door. I then sat on the floor surrounded by piles of thoughts and my curiosity and chose to start meditating.

Going inward is the most important journey that I have taken so far.  It was and still is the best place ever to visit!

What have I found from my journey inward?  I have found an untouched time capsule with my name on it lying on the ocean floor just waiting for me to retrieve it. A waterproof note attached states that the contents residing inside belong to me but are best to be shared with others.

So, I guess it’s time to haul this huge capsule overflowing with my treasures up to the surface and unlock it for the world to see. I hope there’s also some of those gold foil covered chocolate coins intact because long journeys always make me hungry.

When prying open the capsule the word  PURPOSE  pops  out followed by inspire, educate and motivate others. That’s good because those, along with helping others achieve their individual results are the main reasons that my Personal Training clients choose to spend their money and time with me.

In return, they teach me patience and increase my knowledge and problem solving skills which then allows my creativity to come into play so that I can try new ways of doing things to help them .It really is a give and take relationship. Just as importantly they make me laugh and that is worth everything.

I hope that I can take my skills and transfer them onto the journey that I am now taking with you.   Your comments, ideas and feedback will let me know if I’m going in the right direction or if I have to take out the dreaded map.  I’m looking forward to travelling with you. Are you ready?walk
